General Santos City, Philippines
Genrhythmics as a division of the General Santos City Government Employees Performing Arts Company was created on July 13, 2005. The original members, handpicked by the Honorable City Mayor, Pedro B. Acharon, JR., are local government employees. The group’s exposures include, but not limited to, government functions and affairs, especially during state dinners for special guests and dignitaries. As such, much is expected of the group as its audience demands class, clarity of lyrics and music, fun and excitement. Its repertoire transcends era and genre. Among the well-loved and highly acclaimed renditions are contemporary and pop, rhythm and blues, alternative, smooth jazz, bossanova, mellow rock and country. GenRhythmics’s comparative advantage over other popular bands in the city is the professionalism of the member artists whose passion for music is the driving force for unparalleled performance on or off stage.

Nexxus and Ratsky

December 2, 2008, members of Genrhythmics found themselves at Ratsky - Morato, Quezon City for a benchmarking activity (the politically correct term of what was once referred as "Lakbay-Aral").

Anyway, there was a group of tennis players from Tuguegarao who were celebrating their victory over PNP in a tournament. Too much fun fueled by alcohol makes a daredevil out of anyone. Nexxus Band was playing that night. The same musical wonder who brought us "I'll Never Go (Far Away from You)" OPM. A lady from that group got up on stage and sang with the band the ever undying "Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang."

Taking cue from that incident, GRX, who were already slightly intoxicated took the challenge when Nexxus dared anyone from the crowd who would dare conquer the stage next.

The rest of the story you can see in the video above. (By the way, it was Nexxus who suggested the song. I would have wanted to bleat out Through the Fire!!)

God Speed, Nurse Rodney

Rodney Roy Valencia, our lead male vocals, will be taking the Nursing Board Exams this November 29-30 in Davao City. We would like to say... GOD BLESS YOU AND KNOCK EM DEAD!
Rodney began his nursing studies about the same time Genrhythmics was created. He was already working as an Administrative Officer of the City Planning and Development Office, a job that is already time demanding. On top of that, he was rarely absent or late during practices and performances. Rodney's dedication and passion to the performing art is truly exemplary.
We love you Rod, and we'll see you in Manila on December 1.
P.S. Don't forget to bring the caramel cake you promised!!!!

Today is Sunshine

Today is sunshine
Today is another day
Today is a promise
Of endless possibilities

Today we'll talk about you
And the prospects of tomorrow
Today with you Generals
Today is sunshine for you

Today is a brighter day
It's another beginning
For you it's a new day
Of endless opportunities

Today we'll talk about you
And the prospects of tomorrow
Today with you Generals
Today is sunshine for you

"Today with the Generals" is an hour-long talk show broadcasted during the Yaman Gensan business  month.  It shows the simple yet dynamic daily grinds of General Santos City and captures the people's (called the Generals) struggles and triumphs.

"Today is Sunshine" is the original theme song/jingle of the talk show.  Lyrics were written by Edgar "Egai" D. Cadiente and the music was arranged and performed by GenRhythmics.

The Company

The Government Employees Performing Arts Company was recently created by virtue of Executive Order No. 034, series of 2008. The existing groups, namely: the choir, dance troupe and band, were previously independent from each other. The primary purpose of these groups was to provide performances in special occasions such as festivals, conferences, ans such other programs, not only to entertain but more importantly to advocate, promote, educate and encourage the development and appreciation of culture and arts in General Santos City.

Since all the three groups have common objectives and goals, there is a need to consolidate these efforts for a unified artistic framework, and the proper artistic growth of each member performer.

With Edgar "Egai" D. Cadiente as its Artistic Director, it is without a doubt that The Company will uncover fresh insights, stretch its potentials and discover new heights in the realms of performing arts.

The Little-Big General

Philip Cesar Nadela, the Champion of the 1st Little Dreamer of Pinoy Dream Academy of media giant ABS-CBN, partied with his fellow Generals during his homecoming on October 17, 2008. A victory dinner was given by the local government in partnership with Six Blings proprietor Mr. Bebot Haw. Of course, Genrhythmics provided the entertainment for the Little General's well-wishers, fans and family.

The Victory Dinner was an intimate affair of not more than 200 guests. Yet, it was well attended by the local government officials. Especially, the members of the City Council, who passed the resolution that urged all the people of General Santos City to vote for Philip during the competition. Although the Honorable City Mayor, Pedro B. Acharon, Jr. accompanied by the First Lady, Dr. Rose Acharon, made a personal appearance his message was delivered by the Honorable City Councilor, Megs Santos. His message tells of the unfathomable pride and great appreciation of the Generals for his accomplishment of putting the limelight once more to General Santos City.

Yes, Philip, we are truly proud of you!!!!
